This series kicks off with fringe wines, or wines that are made from unusual grapes or using unconventional techniques as compared to the majority of wines on the market. They may come from little-discussed regions, or be part of a unique style category.
Episode one is an exploration of biological aging as it applies to table wines. Some may be familiar with certain styles of Sherry that age under a veil of flor yeast in barrels. But there are a few table wines worth seeking that are made the same way.
Flor fundamentals in this episode: what flor is, how it forms, how it impacts the wine, and what to expect in the glass.
